The Encyclopedia of Trauma and Traumatic Stress Disorders

The Encyclopedia of Trauma and Traumatic Stress Disorders is a compilation of trauma and stress related terminology in the field of traumatic stress, where posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has become a common headline in media and television reporting of soldiers’ experiences in the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. Although PTSD has existed for millennia, it did not become a recognized diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders until 1980, when introduced by the American Psychiatric Association.
