An Inquiry Into the Principles of the Distribution of Wealth Most Conducive to Human Happiness: Applied to the Newly Proposed System of Voluntary Equality of Wealth

William Thompson - Nama Orang;

This book discusses the basic principles of wealth distribution that are considered most likely to increase human happiness. William Thompson criticized economic systems that produce significant inequality between the rich and the poor, arguing that wealth production should be accompanied by equitable distribution to benefit society at large. Using a political economy and utilitarian philosophy, Thompson explained that labor is the primary source of wealth and that the goal of wealth distribution should be to achieve the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people. He compared several labor systems—such as forced labor, individual competition, and cooperation—and argued that mutual cooperation and voluntary equality in the distribution of wealth would result in more efficient production and improve social welfare. The book also outlined the moral, economic, and political implications of wealth inequality and emphasized the importance of secure rights to the fruits of labor, voluntary exchange, and the dissemination of knowledge to achieve a more just and happy society. This work was one of the earliest works to influence thinking on cooperative economics and early socialism within the 19th-century political economy tradition.
